February 14 – Trifon Zarezan and Saint Valentine

On February 14, we celebrate Tryphon Zarezan according to the Gregorian calendar and Valentine’s Day.

According to the Orthodox Church, the Holy Martyr Tryphon was born around 225. in the village of Komsada. He lives righteously. He died because he refused to reject the Christian faith. During the persecutions against the Christians, the saint was arrested, tortured and beheaded.

On this day, the vines are cut down and watered with wine so that many grapes will be born.

Saint Martyr Tryphon is honored – patron of vine-growers, winemakers and innkeepers.

After adopting the Gregorian calendar, the holiday is moved to February 1. February 14 began to be celebrated as the Day of the Vintner.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated relatively recently in our country. On this holiday, lovers reveal their feelings to each other, give each other flowers and gifts.

The two holidays combine wine and love.

Cheers and love each other! 🙂
